Combat Wombat Clash 2026

A quick summary

The CWC is an entry-level tournament for up to 40 beginner longsword fencers from Belgium and the Netherlands (we're flexible in what makes a "beginner", but you have to be 18+).

It features an experimental ruleset (similar to last year's) with a first phase of quick matches that you self-judge (so you can have many opponents), a top 32 with judges, and finals where the winners are chosen by popular vote!

To get a good mix of different attendees and styles, we will accept a maximum of 4 fencers per club chapter/training location (if a club has multiple distinct chapters/training locations, each can send their own contingent of 4 participants, so coordinate before registering). Clubs are also encouraged to send volunteers (trainers, more experienced members) to help with judging, practical tasks and helping/coaching their beginners during the tournament. The hall is not infinitely large however, so please don't show up with 20 volunteers for every 4 fencers ;)

Participants are expected to bring their own gear, including at minimum helmet, vest and gloves (steel feder is optional but recommended; we can provide nylon wasters). Participants should also have their own insurance.

Registration

You can register for the event, as a fencer or volunteer, via this Google Form.

After you register, you will receive an email from us within a week to let you know if you can attend or if you're placed on the reserve list. If you can attend, this email will also include payment instructions (you will have to wire transfer the fee to our Belgian bank account. Cash payment is not an option).

The participation fee will be €20 for fencers, but free for volunteers.
