Clubweekend 2025

From the 10th to the 12th of October, we held our annual training weekend. Members from all three of our training locations came together for two days filled with friendship, swords, and fun shenanigans.

We kicked things off on Friday evening with board games, meeting new friends, and enjoying great vibes all around. After a night of sleep that was far too short, it was time to dive into a morning of workshops and hard work. Several trainers treated us to a wide and varied range of classes, from fancy footwork to formation drills. Then it was time for some team-building activities. After an afternoon full of fun shenanigans and some sparring, we wrapped up the day with another cozy evening of drinks and board games. The final day began with more workshops, followed by test cutting, where our edge alignment was put to the test with both longsword and messer. In the afternoon, we held our club tournament. Here, members could pressure-test their newly acquired skills, show off their fanciest fencing moves, and experience firsthand just how challenging it is to judge a fight. It also proved to be the perfect opportunity for some of our trainers to try out a new and rather experimental ruleset.

To close off the weekend, we shared a relaxed meal together before heading home, tired and sore, but full of great memories and renewed motivation.

Combat Wombat Clash 2025

On May 24th, 2025, the first-ever Combat Wombat Clash took place : A beginner-friendly longsword tournament that brought together HEMA enthusiasts from across Belgium and the Netherlands. Designed as a welcoming arena for newcomers to test their skills in a competitive but supportive environment, the event exceeded all expectations.

Clubs from both countries showed up in great numbers, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere filled with learning, camaraderie, and plenty of exciting bouts. The level of sportsmanship and enthusiasm was high throughout the day, with participants and spectators alike praising the organization and spirit of the event.

Given its resounding success, the Combat Wombat Clash is poised to become a recurring highlight on the HEMA calendar. A fantastic first edition—with many more to come!

Mysteria 2025 – Where Fantasy Meets Steel

Held on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of May in Aarschot, Mysteria proved once again to be a magical blend of music, fantasy, and immersive reenactment. Visitors were transported to another world filled with mythical creatures, enchanting performances, and historical showcases.

A standout presence was the HEMA club Invirtus, who not only hosted engaging swordfighting workshops but also ran an informative booth that drew curious minds of all ages. Their demonstrations of historical European martial arts offered a hands-on glimpse into real swordplay, with knowledgeable members explaining techniques, history, and modern HEMA practices. Whether swinging a sword for the first time or watching from the sidelines, attendees left with a deeper appreciation for the art of the blade.
